The Partnership for Open Society Initiative, representing more than 60 civil society organizations, held public discussion series on Draft of New Electoral Code and Issues of Realization of Electoral Right in Yerevan, Gyumri and Vanadzor.
The challenges of Draft of Electoral Code, including mechanisms for restoring public trust towards elections and securing civic engagement were brought to public attention.
In Gyumri and Vanadzor participants also discussed the upcoming changes where particularly the head of local self-government bodies shall be elected directly by electors as it is in Yerevan.
The speakers included: Artur Sakunts, Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly–Vanadzor, Chairman; Heriknaz Tigranyan, Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center, Legal Advisor; and Levon Barseghyan, Journalists’ Club “Asparez”, Chairman.
