Open Society Foundations-Armenia and Victoria Burnazyan (independent researcher) cordially invite you to take part in a discussion of report entitled “Analyzing Environmental and Social Impact of Small Hydroelectric Power Plants in Armenia’.
The discussion will take place on June 4th 2014, from 13.00-15.00 p.m. at Ani Plaza Hotel, Ani Hall. Address: Sayat-Nova str., building 19.
The report has looked at the workload of 100 small hydroelectric power plants on 47 rivers, conducted environmental impact assessment for 25 plants and checked compatibility of their work with international conventions and RA legislation. Survey has been conducted in 12 communities that are directly affected by the work of the small hydroelectric power plants with a special emphasis on transparency and accountability mechanisms in the field of the state regulation of the stations.
Presenter Victoria Burnazyan holds a master’s degree in journalism from Armenian National Academy of Sciences. She currently works as an editor at ‘Ecolur’ informational agency. Meantime Victoria is finishing her policy research fellowship 2013-14 at OSF-Armenia in the framework of ‘Policy Research Fellowship Initiative 2013-14’; her research interests include human rights protection, mining in the RA, water resourse managment, small scale hydropower plants, protection of lake Sevan etc.
The policy research paper has been developed in the framework of Open Society Foundations-Armenia’s ‘Policy Research Fellowship Initiative ‘ that aims to support independent policy researchers, foster participation of civil society in the process of public policy development and stimulate debates at all levels of society around the most important policy areas in the country.
